Winona Reunion - I 1996

REPORT ON THE FIRST CGC WINONA REUNION HELD IN 1996

Here is a short rundown of the first reunion organized by Capt. Richard Wight, USCG  (Ret.) & LT. Clifford Reeves, USGC (Ret.)

On September 27,28, & 29, 1996 the first CGC Winona reunion was held in Port Angeles.  A rough count showed approximately 100 people drifted through the reception area during Friday and Saturday. Approximately 95 attended the cocktail hour and 85 attended the banquet Saturday night.  Friday was devoted to getting reacquainted and registration in the hospitality room and reception area.

Saturday was devoted to guided tours of the Coast Guard Air Station and any of the ships that were there, (new stuff to some of the old timers), visiting some of the dispensers of beverages where we formerly frequented, & dedication of the Ship's Bell and Memorial Plaque.  Saturday was topped off by a grand feast & dancing.

Sunday was departing day with a farewell breakfast.  During the banquet a vote was taken to determine if another reunion was to be undertaken, and it was decided the next one should be held in 1998.  A committee of volunteers was formed and Cliff Rocheleau (ET 63-65) was volunteered as chairman.

Cliff can be contacted either by E-mail or by mail at 215 Applegate Lane, Sequim, WA 98382  (Phone 360-582-0925)
